Curly-leaf pondweed (CLP) can grow up to 15 feet tall and forms dense mats at the surface that inhibit water
recreation
CLP overtakes habitat and outcompetes native aquatic plants, potentially lowering diversity.
CLP provides unsuitable shelter, food, and nesting habitat for native animals.
The midsummer die-off of CLP will increase the nutrients/phosphates in the lake during the warmest lake temperatures making it a perfect environment for algae blooms and poor water clarity
Researchers at the U of MN Aquatic Invasive Species Research center found that repeated large scale treatments of CLP early in the season over several years will reduce the plant seedlings (turions) and plant abundance
